North Dakota Scholarships

Some of the deadlines may be from prior years. Scholarship deadlines are cyclical, so even if a deadline has passed, the website will likely be updated for the 2023-24 cycle. January

This award is available to North Dakota high school students who are planning to enroll full-time in an accredited higher education institution in North Dakota. Students must maintain a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, and have an ACT composite score of 24 or higher or a score of 5 or higher on each of the three WorkKeys assessments. The deadline to apply is January 1st. Apply here.

To be eligible, you must be a senior who intends on enrolling in an accredited educational institution for this academic year. Mensa membership is not required or relevant in the selection of scholarship. This is for $500-1,000 and the deadline to apply is January 15th. More info. here.

This gives twenty $1,500 awards. This is available to members of the Future Farmers of America (FFA) who are residents of one of the following states: Arkansas, California, Colorado, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Mexico, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia or Wisconsin. The applicant must plan to major in an eligible agricultural field and have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher. The deadline to apply is January 15th. More details here.

This ranges from $1,000 – $80,000. Applicants must reside and study in one of these regions: Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Mississippi, Missouri, North Carolina, North Dakota, South Carolina, South Dakota, West Virginia, Wisconsin. Applicants must have taken the SAT or ACT and intend to enroll in an Opportunity Partner College and have a minimum GPA of 2.8. The deadline to apply is January 31st. More info. Here.

February

This is offered to graduating high school students. The scholarship is offered in preference to North Central Region 9 members, their spouse, and/or children or grandchildren. The deadline to apply is February 1st. Apply here.

Students must be first year students entering the College of Engineering at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor for the upcoming fall semester. Applicants must be from one of the following states: Alabama, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Louisiana, Maine, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington or Wyoming. This scholarship is available for minority students who are attending Minot State University in Minot, North Dakota. Applicants must have a grade point average of 2.25 or higher. The deadline is February  15th. Learn more here.

Applicants must be a first-generation college-bound student from an ethnically and socioeconomically diverse background. This covers tuition, room and board.  This is renewable for up to four years. The deadline to apply is February 28th. Learn more here.

March

This ranges from $1,000 to $6,600 based on financial needs for High-achieving female 10th and 11th graders attending high school in Michigan, Ohio, Minnesota, Nebraska, Missouri, North Dakota and South Dakota. Joyce Ivy Summer Scholars attend summer pre-college programs at eleven partner colleges and universities – Barnard College, Brown University, Cornell University, Emory University, Harvard University, Johns Hopkins University, MIT, Smith College, Stanford University, Washington University in St Louis, University of Chicago, and Yale University. This is for $500 and is available for a high school senior or college freshman, sophomore or junior with any major. The deadline is March 1st. Application found here.

This is for $500 and is available for sophomores majoring in animal science, range science, pre-vet, agribusiness, ag communications, farm and ranch management or another beef-related major. The deadline to apply is March 1st. Apply here.

This is a $500 scholarship available for a high school senior, a college freshman, sophomore or junior majoring or intending to major in animal science, range science, pre-vet, agribusiness, ag communications, farm and ranch management, or another beef-related major. This is for $750. To be eligible, students must be a high school senior, have an interest in the beef cattle industry of North Dakota, be a member or a child of a member of the North Dakota Stockmen’s Association, and be planning to major in an agriculturally related discipline at any accredited college or university. This is for $500 and is available to students who are or who will be studying an agriculturally related career at any accredited college or university. Preference will be given to students who have completed their bachelor degree and who are pursuing a graduate education or professional school (i.e. veterinary or law school). This is for $1,000 scholarship available for a high school senior planning to major in an agriculturally related discipline at any accredited college or university. The deadline to apply is March 1st.  Apply here.

This is for $1000. To be eligible, the applicant’s parent must be a member of the North Dakota Farm Bureau. Applicants must also be a high school senior that will be attending an accredited college or university in the fall. This scholarship is looking for well-rounded individuals who have achieved a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.0 or better. The deadline to apply is March 15th. Apply here.

Ranges from $1,000 to $10,000. This is a vital resource and community builder for gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender and allied communities by providing grants and scholarships, developing leaders and inspiring giving. Applicants must identify as LGBTQIA and live or attend school in Iowa, Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wisconsin. The deadline is March 15th. More details here.

April

Applicants must be a graduate of a Walsh County high school, be in the last two years of the educational process (junior or senior in college), demonstrate financial need, and must enroll as a full-time student (12 credit hours/semester). First priority is for students from the Park River/Hoople area, however, multiple scholarships are given and applying is recommended for all Walsh county students who otherwise qualify. This is for high school seniors or college students going on to a college of their choice are eligible. Applicants must also have taken the North Dakota Snowmobile Safety Course and whose parents have been members of Snowmobile North Dakota from that time up to the date of application for the scholarship. May

Applicant must be an undergraduate student at a degree institution with a minimum 3.0 GPA. Applicants must also major in Hospitality Management or Hotel/Motel Management Curriculum at a degree granting institution. The deadline to apply is May 1st. Learn more here.

This awards scholarships to entering freshman and sophomore college students who are residents of Montana, daho, and North Dakota. This is for $3,000 per year and is renewable for up to 3 years. The deadline to apply is May 1st. More info. Here.

Thirty (30) $1,000 scholarships are available to high school seniors who participate in the League and plan to further their education with an eye towards an environment, natural resources, and/or conservation-related career.The deadline is May 15th. Apply here.

This is for $2,500 per academic year, per four years. This is available to American Indian high school seniors with a 3.0 GPA or higher who reside in one of the 23 states serviced by the Burlington Northern and Santa Fe Pacific Corporation and its affiliated companies: Arizona, California, Colorado, Kansas, Minnesota, Montana, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Texas, Washington, Arkansas, Louisiana, Utah, Nevada, Wyoming, Illinois, Missouri, Nebraska, Wisconsin, or Iowa. June

This award is available to North Dakota high school students who are planning to enroll full-time in an accredited higher education institution in North Dakota. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and an ACT composite score of 24 or higher. The deadline to apply is June 2nd. Learn more here.

July

This award is for North Dakota high school students who are planning to attend a postsecondary institution in North Dakota. The student must score in the upper fifth percentile of all North Dakota ACT test takers. The deadline to apply is July 1st. Read more here.

This award is for North Dakota students who are enrolled in a federally recognized Indian tribe and attend a North Dakota institution of higher education to pursue an undergraduate or graduate program. Students who qualify for the merit-based award must be the valedictorian of their high school graduating class or have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher; students who qualify for the need-based award must demonstrate financial need and have a grade point average of 2.0 or higher. August

September

The National College Match Scholarship awards a full four-year scholarship, worth over $200,000. High-achieving, low-income students can apply for early admission to a QuestBridge college partner with a full four-year scholarship. The application is due September 26th. Read more here.

October

Awards up to $2,500. The Blue Cross Blue Shield of North Dakota (BCBSND) Caring Foundation Health Profession Scholarship Program is available to North Dakota residents currently attending a North Dakota university, college or technical college who are enrolled in a nursing or health care related program. They must be a full-time undergraduate or graduate student, and must have already completed their undergraduate freshman year of college. Applicants must also be in good academic standing; maintaining a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher, and demonstrate financial need. The deadline to apply is October 1st. Read more here.

November

December

Awards $60,000. The Hagan Scholarship is a nationwide need-based merit scholarship for high achieving rural students. These students must graduate from a public high school located in one of twenty-plus eligible states and in a county having fewer than 50,000 residents. Applicants must be a U.S. citizen and resident of an eligible state and must have attended as a junior and senior an eligible public high school and graduating in the coming spring, and will attend an eligible four-year college or university. Applicants must be a high school female in grades 10-12 and live within 200 miles of the F-M Area who has a passion for the arts. The deadline to apply is December 20th. Learn more here.

Awards up to $5000. Each year, ADL Midwest invites 6th-12th grade students in Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana, Minnesota, North Dakota, and South Dakota to participate in the First Amendment Freedoms Art & Essay Contest. Using a personal example or experience, describe or portray how one of the five freedoms in the First Amendment affects your daily life. The deadline to apply is December 31st. Read more here.

Deadline's Vary

This program provides non-repayable grants to North Dakota residents who are first-time undergraduate students and who attend qualifying North Dakota public, private, or tribal colleges. Website found here.

Two scholarships will be awarded with preference given to rural Barnes County residents. Eligibility depends on applicant GPA or ACT/SAT score. Read more here.

This is up to $2,500 and is given to young North Dakota college students who demonstrate good leadership. Read more here.

Applicants must be citizens of the United States who are enrolled in an undergraduate program at a tribal or public two-year or four-year institution of higher education in North Dakota. The degree program should be in the areas of science, technology, engineering, or mathematics. This is for $2,500 and for students who show academic excellence. Apply here.
